Sexual education in the first year of high school

Abstract

Talking about sexuality is still a taboo, but the importance of a responsible dialogue on sexual education for young people proves to be very necessary. This research sought to identify how sexuality is perceived by first year high school students in a school in Brasília, and what their most common doubts are. With these questions a class was prepared and it was investigated where the information they have about the subject comes from. The data obtained was analyzed by content analysis and showed students interested in the theme and active participation during the class, even if shy. Sexual education still has many barriers that need to be crossed, but the theme is developing.

Ana Júlia Lemos Alves Pedreira, Universidade de Brasília

Doutora em Educação pela UnB; Mestre em Ecologia (UnB), Especialista em ensino a distância (CEAD/ UnB) e Graduada em Ciências Biológicas pela UFV (Universidade Federal de Viçosa). Docente na Educação Básica por 18 anos e atualmente professora na UnB no Núcleo de Educação Científica (NECBio) / Instituto de Biologia, e professora orientadora no Programa de Mestrado Profissional em Ensino de Biologia (PROFBio/ UnB). Atua nas seguintes áreas: ensino de Ciências, ensino de Biologia, formação de professores, recursos didáticos e ensino de Ciências em Classe Hospitalar.
