This article arose from the need to understand creativity at school through symbolic mediators, namely signs (drawing, writing, theater). L.S. Vygotsky, an important psychologist and educator of the 20th century, left his contribution regarding the work with signs to be carried out by the school environment. Therefore, the objective of this research was to bring the thought of the Soviet author about mediating signs and how they can be worked in the classroom. These signs can be excellent aids in the development of creativity in schoolchildren, understanding that all human activity is not restricted to mere reproductions, but the human being is a being that is in a constant process of creation. Vygotsky emphasizes that for the development of creative subjects, teachers in their work with signs must understand that drawing, writing and theater must arise from necessity and schoolchildren must understand the real need to use such psychological instruments and then know how to operate. with the same. In this sense, knowing how to draw, write and stage goes much further, it stems from a complex and prolonged process, it requires the subject to be completely involved with the process and such activity. In order to respond to the proposed objective, this work carried out a bibliographic research of Vygotsky's texts that deal with the chosen theme.
