Análise clínica e epidemiológica da infecção por criptococose em pacientes do hospital de referência em doenças tropicais de Teresina, Brasil

Introdução: A criptococose é uma micose invasiva, comumente associada à infecção de pacientes HIV+ imunossuprimidos. Objetivo: Caracterizar a clínica e epidemiologia das infecções por Cryptococcus spp. em um hospital de doenças tropicais, nos últimos cinco anos. Método: Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva e retrospectiva com abordagem quantitativa. Resultados: Dos 40 pacientes, 90% desenvolveu meningite criptocócica. O exame com tinta nanquim foi positivo em 23 pacientes. O método CrAg foi positivo em 29 pesquisados, sendo o mais utilizado para diagnósticos. A infecção por Cryptococcus foi mais determinante para o desenvolvimento da meningite criptocócica, e a infecção no Sistema Nervoso Central (SNC) foi a forma clínica mais comum. Fluconazol e anfotericina B foram utilizados em mais de 70% dos casos. Conclusão: Visto que metade dos pacientes que vieram a óbito era HIV+, o uso da TARV e rastreamento da infecção fúngica por CrAg pode contribuir para redução da mortalidade dessa população.
