This article is the result of an investigation carried out within the scope of scientific initiation, having as its object of study the Estude em Casa (Study at home) application, from the Sergipe State Department of Education (SEDUC-SE). This is a qualitative (PAIVA, 2019) and interpretive (MOITA LOPES, 1994) research, through which we sought to analyze, from the perspective of new literacies, the materials aimed at teaching English in basic education found in the app. Through documentary research (PAIVA, 2019), 260 materials were identified, which were coded according to the postulations of Saldaña (2009). The aim was to verify whether and how digital literacies and multimodality are addressed in these materials. To this end, it was based on the understanding that digital literacies (NASCIMENTO; KNOBEL, 2017; SULZER, 2018) refer to the use of digital technologies in a conscious and reflective way, recognizing even the harmfulness linked to them; and that multimodality (FAÇANHA; LUCENA, 2020; ZACCHI, 2016) deals with the active exploration of the various semioses present in diverse texts. As a result, it was observed that both digital literacies and multimodality are only incipiently present in most materials, without proposals aimed at promoting further reflection.
