The present piece was concerned with analyzing racism and hate speech as direct consequences or not of newspaper articles, as well as their linguistic construction. In addition, the researchers tried to understand the way newspapers write based on a specific case, studying the unfolding in the social networks of a fact narrated by a magazine about a famine committed by a black woman-mother. The racist practices as a product of multiple hierarchical and structuring power relations were worked on, as well as the media influence in such phenomena. Based on bibliographic methodology, in conjunction with Discourse Analysis (DA) and the study of the existing norms in the Brazilian legal system, it is concluded that, despite a legal framework that can contemplate most of the object of research addressed, there are gaps and these, in a socioeconomic cultural view, are directly linked to factors such as the social construction of Brazil as a colonized country, the influence of racist discourse on the internet and journalistic practice.
