Abstract
This article discusses the approaches to lexis in the field of Engish language teaching from a historical perspective and examines the theoretical principles underlying the Lexical Approach (LEWIS, 1993). By drawing on written text by undergraduate students from the UFES, It also discusses the possible pedagogical implications of a lexical view of language.
