This article aims to report on the experience of the Charles Chaplin Film Festival: Images of Contemporary Society, held in Viçosa, Minas Gerais, as part of the outreach project Cinema, Health and Citizenship: Compositions between Bioethics, Aesthetics and Politics. The films Modern Times and The Great Dictator were screened, focusing on (1) work, using Marx's theoretical frameworks, and (2) power relations from the perspective of Foucault and Agamben. Finally, the article considers the potential of such activities to create spaces for discussion on ethics, citizenship, and politics, exposing aspects of reality that can constitute subtle—and powerful—mechanisms for capturing men and women in contemporary times.
