From the ancient cosmos to the Christian worldview: the monstrous between Late Antiquity and the rise of Christianity

We aim to deal in this article with a fundamental problem, which imperatively marked the transition from the Late Antiquity to the rise of Christianity: the confluence of two worldviews guided either by continuities or by ruptures. Particularly in this paper, we reflect about the controversial conception of the nature of beings marked by the otherness, or monstrous beings, which gave rise to the discussion about concepts and precepts of deep anthropological and philosophical implications, such as beauty and ugliness, good and evil, similar and different.
