Abstract

Reflecting on drag performances and their relationship with the modern-colonial gender system (LUGONES, 2020), which characterizes the western modern thinking, this article proposes possible comprehension of issues related to coloniality and decoloniality (SANTOS, 2010). Based on the perspective of a Indisciplinary and Transgressive Applied Linguistics (PENNYCOOK, 2006), that assumes, within it, a commitment to South Epistemologies (SANTOS, 2018), this article discusses drag performances thinking on what extend they can be configured or qualified as actions of resistance to coloniality, or even to what extent they reinforce patterns and norms of the same colonial gender system they are opposed to. Furthermore, it is relevant to pinpoint the context of superdiversity (VERTOVEC, 2007), both local and universal, as well as language perspectives that understand the importance of recognizing and validating the knowledge produced by people who have systematically suffered oppression, exclusion, domination and injustices caused by eurocentrism, the abyssal thinking and the patriarchy. In order to do so, narratives taken from Instagram texts of drag queen from the city Juiz de Fora (MG) are analyzed. Finally, temporary comprehension reveals that “to do” or “to be” decolonial is a constant process of untying beliefs that are instituted in our bodies which, through our performative acts, become potential of resistance to systems of power and social categories.

Graduada em Letras, Licenciatura em Português e suas Respectivas Literaturas, pela Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF). Mestre em Linguística pela Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF), com ênfase em Linguística Aplicada, Translinguagem e Estudos sobre Gênero e Sexualidade.

Ana Cláudia Peters Salgado, Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora

Graduada em Letras - Inglês pela Universidade de São Paulo (1993), Mestre em Educação pela Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (2004) e Doutora em Letras pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (2008). Foi professora associada da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF), atuando no ensino de graduação e pós-graduação, pesquisa e extensão, principalmente nos seguintes temas: sociolinguística, contatos linguísticos, bilinguismo, educação bilíngue, ensino de línguas e formação de professor com vistas à formação de leitores críticos e justiça social. Foi pró-reitora da graduação da UFJF e coordenadora do Programa de Pós-graduação em Linguística da mesma instituição.
