This paper focuses on synchronic variants of the ditransitive construction. The use of different argument configurations of this construction and the different lexical items that can fill the verbal slot are discussed. The aim is to identify functional aspects that motivate the occurrence of these configurations based on the token frequency of the types considered. The theoretical-methodological approach adopted is that of Usage-Based Functional Linguistics with a constructionist bias. The analysis is predominantly qualitative with quantitative support, revealing trends. The empirical data comes from corpora that record actual uses of Brazilian Portuguese in various spoken and written genres of the 20th century. The results obtained indicate that the variants of the ditransitive construction maintain horizontal relations with each other in the constructional network, since they express similar propositional content, but differ in terms of morphosyntactic and discursive-pragmatic aspects.
