This article aimed to identify the possible consequences of school dropout and truancy at the Moeda state school (MG), based on the teaching and administrative staff. To this end, a qualitative study was conducted with in-depth interviews with 17 high school teachers and 6 administrative/pedagogical staff members of this school. The results showed consequences of school dropout and truancy that impact both students and the school community and society as a whole, such as: impairment of students' academic and personal development, social exclusion, health problems, violence, use of illicit substances and low professional qualifications, which contribute to the perpetuation of the cycle of poverty and marginalization. As contributions, this study provides data that can serve as a basis for the development of innovative pedagogical practices and public policies that better meet the needs of students at risk of dropping out in various educational institutions.
