Introduction: Violence is a global phenomenon with social and historical dimensions, representing a major public health problem. Interpersonal violence occurs in the form of domestic/intimate partner violence and community violence. The face and head regions are the most frequently targeted by aggressors. Dentists play a crucial role, as they work directly with these areas, yet they still face challenges in diagnosing and managing such cases. Objective: To identify and analyze publications in the literature regarding violence within the dental field and to discuss the approaches proposed by the authors for clinical care. Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted. In addition to scientific articles, national materials such as manuals, protocols, guidelines, resolutions, and informational booklets published between 2012 and 2024 were included. Results: This narrative review included 14 studies. Underreporting of cases was observed. Including the topic of violence in academic curricula enables students to develop a critical understanding of the social factors that affect life and health. This situation may also stem from a lack of regulations establishing technical procedures. It was also noted that the issue is not addressed in most professional codes of ethics. Only one of the analyzed materials provided a step-by-step guide from clinical examination to case reporting. Conclusion: There is an urgent need to develop a technical-scientific manual or a specific, unified instrument at the national level, aimed at the dental professional category, to support the systematic investigation of violence against vulnerable populations and ensure accurate professional training.
