THE COMMITMENT IN TEXTS BY ELEMENTARY-MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
Keywords:
Writing, Letter to the editor, Linguistic featuresAbstract
The investigative scope of this article is the phenomenon Commitment in texts by Elementary-Middle School Students. Our theoretical perspective is informed by the work of Adam (2008, 2011), Passeggi et al. (2010), Rodrigues et al. (2010), Gomes (2016), Gomes, Passeggi and Rodrigues (2018), among others. Our methodology is carried out through the analysis of ten texts in the discursive genre, Letter to the Editor, produced by students in the 7th year of Elementary-Middle School. The analysis shows a predominance of student voices, although we find a few recurrent voices of other enunciative instances, an example of this being the voice of the author of the article about which the letters to the editor were written – the corpus of this work. With regard to the linguistic features identified, which materialize the taking up of commitment in the texts analyzed, we find connectors, adjectives, adverbs, verbs in the first person singular and plural, verbs in the first person singular and plural, and modalizers as being the most in evidence. The analysis shows us, and others, that when a work is carried out with linguistic elements under the discursive gaze, the students manage to learn better and use the linguistic resources in the text produced.
