This paper aims to discuss language variation and change in the context of synchronic grammatical constructionalization. In order to fulfill the proposed objective, we present empirical evidence of two phenomena of the Portuguese language – constructions with “então” and evaluative constructions with “super”, “mega”, “hiper” and “ultra”. In this study, we assume the theoretical assumptions of the Grammar of Constructions in terms of Goldberg (1995, 2016), Croft (2001) and Traugott and Trousdale (2013), in the context of Usage-based Functional Linguistics. This data analysis is based on the qualitative and quantitative methodology taking as a basis a synchronous corpus composed by texts taken from blogs, magazines available on the internet and social media YouTube. The results show that, depending on the object of analysis and the researcher’s objectives, it is possible to talk about change and variation, focusing on the mechanism of neoanalysis and the mechanism of analogization, even from a synchronic perspective of the analysis of grammatical constructionalization.
