This article aims to demonstrate the work of a peer educator who participated in a prevention project among schoolchildren and the significance of this action for the adolescents participating in the project. Therefore, the study is characterized as an experience report. The project "Connecting Knowledge and Preventing the Use of Psychoactive Substances: Dialoguing with the Community" began in 2010 at a municipal public school in the municipality of Vitória, Espírito Santo, and is developed as one of the main activities of the Center for Studies and Research on Alcohol and Other Drugs (CEPAD) at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES). The project is divided into two phases: 1) Selection of peer educators and construction of a space that encourages reflection and discussion on aspects related to the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs; and 2) Active participation of peer educators in the school (the subject of this article). Partial results include educational activities carried out by adolescents, as well as a workshop led by one of these multipliers, whose theme is youth protagonism and the enhancement of personal protective factors against the use of psychoactive substances among adolescents.
