The Roman cities in Tripolitania: the case of Oea (II AD)

The Tripolitania’s Roman cities made up an urban tangle of several backgrounds. Some of them dating back its founding to Punic past, especially those located on the Mediterranean coast, as in the case of the three main agglomerations in the region, Lepcis, Sabrata and Oea. In this article, we analyze the influence of the Roman conquest in Tripolitania, taking as a case study the changes in the urban site of Oea as a result of ascension process of the city to the Roman colony status.
