Abstract

The following article aims to analyze the genesis of what is understood as the stereotype Nomad Scythian in authors of Classical Antiquity, more specifically, in Herodotus and the Hippocratic authors. It is understood that Greek etnography was responsible for building a stereotype about nomad groups that per passed all the Antiquity and was used both for the structuring of narratives and for the reinforcement of conceptions about these groups. This analysis is guided by two key concepts: fictive ethnicity, as theorized by Étienne Balibar (1991) and stereotype, by Homi Bhabha (1998).
