In order to describe the patterns of use of locative prepositions in and ni in the spoken Portuguese of Seabra, a municipality in the state of Bahia, in a sample consisting of 12 (twelve) sociolinguistic interviews, stratified according to sex, age group and schooling. of speakers, we base this study on the Theory of Linguistic Variation and Change (WEIREINCH; LABOV; HERZOG, 2006 [1968]; LABOV, 2008 [1972]). To this end, we start from the point that the ni variant is present in the speech of the community under study, not being stigmatized in it. After tabulating the data, we submitted them to a statistical programming language called R (R CORE TEAM, 2020), identifying 213 occurrences in contexts that allow the variation of the preposition, analyzed quantitatively regarding the effect exerted by social predictors on them. With regard to the proposed analyses, we found, on the one hand, with the univariate, that the variables age and education were significant and, on the other hand, with the multivariate, that the predictors sex, in interaction with the age group, and education had effects on the response variable.
