Thouways of a research in Educational Sociolinguistics in a public school in Ceilândia - DF

This work represents the depiction of a study developed in the field of language, with focus on linguistic variation, performed at the University of Brasília’s (UnB) Master Degree in Linguistics and it aims the paths taken during the research process. Thus, we will present the techniques adopted in the generation of data, the interaction with the collaborators, the concerns and difficulties inherent to any and all research, as well as the results and impressions acquired during the research. This study took place in a public school at Ceilândia - DF, in 2019, and had 35 high school seniors and their Portuguese teacher as collaborators. It presents Sociolinguistics as a guiding theoretical axis, especially in its educational aspect, based on the works of Bagno (2008), Bortoni-Ricardo (2005), Travaglia (2008), among others. The results reveal that students have knowledge about linguistic variation, however, some have presented intolerant behaviors with different dialects from their own. The teacher worked sporadically on the theme of linguistic variation, but he was only concerned with transmitting notions of linguistic adequacy. This theme is treated timidly by the authors of the textbook used at school.
