This article deals with Portuguese verbal morphology in Cape Verdean focusing the codification of past situations. We consider that some properties of the Portuguese linguistic system are inserted in the Cape Verdean language, considering the bilingual and diglossic context that we verified through the written data from the webpage https://www .dexamsabi.com and oral reports of the television news Cabo Verde Magazine. We observed a higher percentage of divergences of which Cape Verdean maintains its aspectual morphology to codify past situations, but there is a supplanted morphology, mainly in imperfective situations and perfective with past participle, which leads to the characterization of the phenomenon as a case of linguistic crossing.
