As a social need, the translation of scientific texts into Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) has enabled Deaf people to access knowledge available in Portuguese in Brazil. In this article, the aim is to discuss aspects of specialized intermodal translation of texts on human biology. For this, based on authors from the field of Deaf Studies and Translation Studies, the translation, in Libras, of three texts in Portuguese language that support the mediation of visits to the Museu de Ciências da Vida (MCV), Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (Ufes), is analyzed: Urinary System, Respiratory System and Cardiovascular System. Among the main aspects of these translations, the following stand out: (i) the performance of a Deaf translator who has Libras as her first language, which makes it a direct translation; (ii) the choice not to generate neologisms in the target language to translate source language terms; and (iii) the use of classifiers to describe biochemical phenomena, organs and substances. It is considered important that more studies evidence the contributions of Deaf translators in translation processes of specialized texts that provide to the dissemination and expansion of scientific knowledge in Libras.
